Error loading D3DGraph library

Message par cobarcore »

Dear all,
from a week I'm using this wonderful sw on my main PC. Now I tried to install it also on an old notebook (low power) that I wish to use for data uploading with my WS2350. While loading the sw, a message appears with "an error occured in GraphWeather. The program exit now."; from the loading window I can read that GW was "loading D3DGraph library..."
I've also tried to add the dll advised in the download page, but no effect.
The PC is a notebook from 1999, a Toshiba Satellite 2100CDS, with WinXP pro updated, AMD K6-2 400 MHz processor, 160 MB ram, S3 Virge/MX graphic card (2MB ram), 4 GB HD, DirectX 9.0c.

Any ideas?

Best Regards

PS: I've tried to search this problem on the forum, but I've found only french language topics and I cannot understand the solutions. Sorry if this is a duplicate.

Hello,
did you try to (re)install the d3dx9_29.dll ? if no you will find it here http://www.aguilmard.com/index.php?page ... n=download
The second track that may be followed would be to reinstall the video driver.

You might be a little short with your 160Mb RAM ...

Good luck

Hi Jean and thanks for your reply,
I've tried to reinstall this dll, but no improvements... :cry:
About the video driver (S3 Virge/MX), it's incorporated in Win XP and the manufacturer do not supply any driver for XP, saying that it is included in the o.s.. I've tried to search for any update elsewhere, but no results.

160MB ram is unfortunately the maximum supported by that old notebook.

Any other ideas? :?:

Hi,
I don't have much more ideas on the subject, but did you have a look at the Windows logs in the config panel -> admin tools ?
You may get a bit more explanations in the events log if GW crashed.

Hi Jean,
thank you for your help. I've tried to search in the logs but no useful information is displayed.
I've tried also to run the command "dxdiag" and test the direct3d in the display tab, the result is that the directx 7 and 8 are supported, while v9 no because of the small memory of the graphic card (onli 2MB).
Moreover here ( http://worldwindcentral.com/wiki/Video_ ... patibility ) it says that my graphic card crashes with d3d v9....

I've found in this forum, french part, about mac, an old topic that seemed to solve the problem disabling the hardware interterface in the config file. How can I try this?

Regards

Hello,
you can use the software option for directX :
Options -> DirectX ->select the software option
The quality of graphs is not quite so good as the hardware one.
Have a nice day

Hi Jean,
thanks again for help, but how can I change the options if the sw do not open??? :?
I've tried to change the settings on a GW working installation on another PC and coping the config file in the not working pc, tried options "software" and "debug", lowered the resolution, but no improvements... :( maybe this is not the correct way to change the options...

I just checked the config.cfg file in GW base directory, the values for software directX are the following :
[DIRECTX]
DeviceType=3
MultiSampleType=0
MaxPoints=500
DXWidth=900
DXHeight=800
Interpolation=16416

Then I don't really know what else can be done, this is going to be Antoine's expertise ! and I know that he is very busy now !

Hi,

You can try to edit the config.cfg file in GW directory.
Find and replace these parameters :

[DIRECTX]
DeviceType=3
DXWidth=500
DXHeight=500

DeviceType = 3 means software
DXWidth x DXHeight x 32 should be < 2Mbyte

Let me know if it works.

Dear Antoine and Jean,
unfortunately this setting makes no difference in the error. It seems that I'll not be able to run GW on that old pc. :cry:

Thanks anyway!
